BOATBOY

Singer-songwriter and acoustic rock band

Boatboy started as a one-man bedroom project in 2018. While recovering from surgery in that summer, British singer-songwriter Oliver Roche-Newton used the time to record some ideas he had been working on over the years. The outcome was the debut EP "Dreams", released in October 2018.

The songwriting placed a heavy emphasis on storytelling, including some personal tales, and some from the imagination. Some of the topics covered in Boatboy songs include, remembrance, self-forgiveness, gender identity, friendships gone wrong and sporting fanaticism.

To bring this EP to the stage, Oliver enlisted the help of Daniel Kimpfbeck on guitar and Georg Nietsche on percussion. So, now Boatboy is a 3 piece acoustic rock outfit, making some of the loudest quiet music out there. They have been gigging regularly throughout 2019 and early 2020, mostly in their "native" Linz, but also in Innsbruck, Vienna and Graz.

In March 2020, their debut full-length album "Wind In My Sails" was released. The 10 song release presents a slicker and thicker sound, including some excellent guest contributions on violin and vocals. The boys were proud to present it to the world, and keenly look forward to getting back to gigging later this year.
